The Sunday Times : The State should reward women, not treat them as second class citizens

I was due to have the annual feminist lunch next week with the late Nuala Fennell. Last year, our lunch group comprised Nuala, Mary Kenny and Mairin de Burca. Before we got down to the business of gossip, we asked each other the ritual questions. "Anybody been appointed to a state board? Anybody been given an honorary doctorate?" No and no, we laughed ruefully. Kenny issued her annual wistful lament. "Just one tiny state board seat paying a tiny honorarium. Is that too much to ask?"
