Cairde is looking for a Community Health Worker (Community Employment Scheme)

Job Title - Community Health Worker (Community Employment Scheme)

Cairde's Health Information and Advocacy Centre aims to provide relevant, accurate and culturally appropriate health information, support and advocacy to minority ethnic community members and groups to enable them to access and use health services.

Job Purpose - The key task of the Community Health Worker is to support the work of the Health Information and Advocacy Centre through community development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties
- To support individuals and groups from ethnic minority communities to access health and related services.
- To develop health services information and health information, as directed.
- To maintain the Health Information and Advocacy Centre, as directed.
- To engage in outreach work in the community, and in a variety of health and community settings, as directed.
- To support the Ethnic Minority Health Forum - planning activities, organising meetings, conducting outreach to inform people about meetings, supporting people to participate in meetings, documenting meetings and following-up on actions agreed at meetings, as directed.
- To participate in training relevant to the work, as directed.
- To network with other community/voluntary agencies and build solidarity with other groups experiencing inequality.
- To network and work in partnership with relevant statutory agencies, as appropriate
- To develop and maintain respectful and trusting relationships with those involved in the project, and agencies Cairde comes into contact with through the work of project.
- Reception duties
- Assist and support with other administrative duties as they arise.

Responsibilities
- To respect the confidentiality of all Cairde clients in all aspects of Cairde work.
- To maintain accurate and up to date records and statistics of the work carried out.
- To contribute to internal and external reporting processes.
- To engage in supervision, staff appraisal, staff meetings, training and development as directed.
- To participate in project evaluation and monitoring processes as instructed.
- To contribute to smooth running of the whole organisation.

Management
Line Manager - Coordinator, Cairde

Applicants should have some experience (in paid or unpaid capacity) and/or interest in community development and some understanding of issues affecting ethnic minority communities in Ireland. The successful applicant will be encouraged to undertake training relevant to the role.

Applicants must have fluency in written and spoken English, and fluency in one of the other languages, preferably Polish, Romanian, Arabic, Mandarin, Russian or African languages. This position is based on Community Employment scheme: part-time, 19.5 hours per week, and anyone who wishes to apply should meet the community employment criteria outlined by FÁS.
