Exploring women’s access to representative democracy at a local level in Ireland

Published: Wednesday, July 10, 2019

NWCI has received funding from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government to enable us to carry out a piece of research with councillors and relevant stakeholders. The aim of this research is to increase our knowledge and understanding of what helps women's access to representative democracy at local level and to set out clear recommendations on how to increase women’s representation in all their diversity.

Dr Pauline Cullen and Claire McGing have been contracted to carry out the research and they will be inviting all city and county councillors to participate in an online survey at the end of July and during August.

We have convened a research advisory group to support this project made up of members and stakeholders.  We plan to have a report finalised in early October.

Your participation in the survey is essential for the success of this research, and we would appreciate if you would contribute your time and expertise.
