Great chance to meet international human rights lawyer Prof. Caroline Bettinger Lopez

Prof. Caroline Bettinger Lopez will visit Ireland in May 2013. The visit is being organised and sponsored by the Global Women Studies Centre at NUI Galway and co-sponsored by the Women's Human Rights Alliance. She was the leading activist / academic in a recent successful case that was brought before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights concerning the failure of the United States to enforce a restraining order and protect Jessica Lenehan Gonzales and her two daughters (who were killed by their estranged father) from domestic violence.
She is Director of the Human Rights Law Clinic at the University of Miami. Her work centres around the domestic implementation of international human rights law and her areas of expertise are violence against women, gender and race discrimination and immigrant rights.
The work of Prof. Bettinger Lopez is ground breaking and inspiring as a model of translating international human rights norms into the domestic context and the NWCI are delighted to welcome Prof. Bettinger Lopez to our offices.
