Inquest into Manchester mother’s murder reopened

A coroner has reopened an inquiry into the death of a Manchester mother who had warned police that her husband would kill her.
Sabina Akhtar,26, was stabbed to death by her taxi driver husband Malik Mannan just four days after he was released without charge for previously attacking her.
Mannan, 36, had been violent towards his wife 25 times before eventually murdering her in September 2008.
It took just 20 minutes for a jury to convict Mannan of Sabina's murder, and he was given a life sentence with a minimum of seventeen years to be served before he is eligible for parole.
Manchester coroner Nigel Meadows has now decided to hold a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
