Launch Event
The NWCI'S Y Factor project, which works with young people to support and promote them as advocates for women's equality, is planning an exciting event to launch the project on the 1st February 2013. The event will be a celebration of the voices of young women and showcase what and who the Y Factor is all about. So watch this space for more information about this fun evening. The young members of the Y Factor steering group are the drivers of the event and we are always looking for young people to get involved with us by volunteering ideas and some time to put those ideas into action. If you're between the ages of 16 and 25 and would like to get involved in this event or in the Y Factor project generally, please contact project co-ordinator, Elva O'Callaghan, elvaoc@nwci.ie or 01-8787248.
School Projects
The Y Factor project recently completed a series of workshops on women's equality with Transition Year students at St. Vincent's School in Dundalk. We had a great experience with the young women there who participated in the sessions with enthusiasm and interest and presented some really good projects on female role models at the last workshop. It was a great start to our pilot programme and we're grateful to teacher Bernadette White and to the students for the warm welcome and great response. The Y Factor will continue the pilot phase of its education/discussion programme in schools and youth projects with Trinity Comprehensive and Poppintree Youth Project in Ballymun and Malahide Community School in the New Year. If you know a school or youth project that would be interested in participating in the Y Factor education/discussion programme, contact Elva (details above).
