Women's Aid recently highlighted the links between domestic violence and technology at the launch of our 2009 Annual Statistics Report. However, we know that while technology can be used as a tool to control and abuse women it can also be their lifeline. That is why Women's Aid is delighted to launch its brand new website www.womensaid.ie.

The website is a very informative, modern and user friendly resource for women experiencing domestic violence, and their family and friends.

The site includes:

• Information on how Women's Aid can help
• Links to local domestic violence support services and refuges
• Warning signs of an abusive relationship
• Information on the various forms of domestic violence
• Practical information on legal options, safety planning, and information on other agencies that can help
• Information for family and friends on how to support women emotionally and practically
• The site also promotes and encourages online safety for women and includes informative guides for protecting yourself while using home or mobile phones, accessing the internet, engaging with social network sites and guarding against cyber-stalking.

By visiting the site you will learn of the other vital work Women's Aid carries out to affect social, cultural and political change for women affected by domestic violence including our campaigning, policy and public awareness work, our training and development work and our work to support communities addressing domestic violence.

The site also features a comprehensive list of Women's Aid publications, national and international statistics and research on domestic violence and links to other support and advocacy organisations.

The new website was made possible through a donation to Women's Aid by the Avon Speak Out against Domestic Violence programme earlier this year. The partnership between the two organisations is part of a global Avon programme designed to encourage women to 'break the silence' that surrounds this issue by seeking help from organisations such as Women's Aid.

Women's Aid would like to acknowledge the support of Avon distributors, Representatives and customers across Ireland who purchased the Avon Women's Empowerment Necklace last year to raise the money that has enabled us to bring our website into the 21st Century.

We know that thousands of women affected by domestic violence access our website for information and support each year. The Avon donation means we can now provide this information in a more up to date and easily accessible way.

We hope that for the many women who access our website for support and information it continues to be a lifeline, online.
