The MRCI and CWC are pleased to announce two national practice seminars for Community Workers and those that use community work approaches in engaging with migrant workers and their families.

* Thursday 19th May, Irish Aid Volunteering Centre, O'Connell Street, Dublin 11am-4pm
* Thursday 12th May, Nasc, Enterprise House, 35 Mary Street, Cork, 11am-4pm (in association with Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre)

Ireland has a long history of community work approaches being used to promote social inclusion and participation of marginalised communities. However community work with migrants in Ireland, including asylum seekers, refugees and migrant workers is at a relatively early stage in its development. The recession has resulted in challenges for community work in general, as well as the growing tendency for mainstream society to scapegoat migrants for the impacts of recession.
Underpinned by principles such as equality and social justice, community work clearly has an important role to play in supporting the active and critical participation of migrants in local communities and Irish society but community work with migrants requires additional competencies.
The MRCI and CWC are pleased to announce two national practice seminars for Community Workers and those that use community work approaches in engaging with migrant workers and their families that will provide a space to explore best practice and the additional competencies needed to work with migrant workers. The aim of these practice seminars is to support best community work practice with migrant workers and their families by creating a space for discussion and learning. The seminars will also provide an opportunity to network with other community and integration workers; develop analysis and share and build on existing methods and approaches.
The seminars are for those currently employed or active in community, voluntary, local development and ethnic led organisations committed to migrant rights.
The seminars are free of charge but numbers are strictly limited so early booking is advisable. For further information and/or to book a place at either seminar please contact info@cwc.ie or helen@mrci.ie Tel. 091 779030
