Spectacle of Defiance and Hope
Published: Thursday, November 10, 2011
A creative resistance project related to the 'Spectacle of Defiance and Hope' took place on the streets last December where young people, children, parents, seniors and community groups partook in this different form of protest march. It was a very vibrant and creative march - we carried white hearts with messages to the government to stop tearing the heart out of our communities. There was dance, drums and singing - 'you cut we bleed, Defiance and Hope, the Heart is our Future....'
The spectacle plans to go to the streets this December 03rd to amplify our voice calling on the government to protect, defend and sustain our communities and their projects. Some of you may be tired of the fight of afraid but we all have a role to play in the campaign to defend the Community and Youth sector. This December's budget will deliver another massive set of cuts that for some services will mean the end of the road.
The Spectacle organisers are calling out to all the old Community Development Projects and Youth Projects asking them to gather the Grievances and Hopes of the people and put them in a book form... for more information please see www.thespectacleofdefianceandhope.ie. This will help paint a wider picture of the movement. There is also a collective meeting on Tuesday 01st at 9.45am in Liberty Hall next week which will give you a full understanding of the project's aims and objectives. If you can't make the meeting do make contact with John Bissett on 0879889132.
This is a fantastic resistance project it gives life to the struggle, it is simple and beautiful and it makes visible the amazing contribution all our projects make to the lives of all those suffering poverty and exclusion.
Come along and get your project involved. Have a look at last years Spectacle for inspiration. Make your book and come out and join the parade on Saturday 03rd of December to ask the government to stop ripping the hearts out of communities and start protecting, defending and sustaining our Community and Youth Projects.
Stand up for your rights and don't give up this fight lets get stronger. We are defending the most vulnerable people in our society from the impact of a budget that is set to really hurt them.
Come on get on board!
