When they put up their hands like scales - Photographic exhibition by Emma Campbell

Published: Thursday, February 14, 2013

The Copper House Gallery is currently running the photographic exhibition When they put up their hands like scales by artist and photographer Emma Campbell. All of the photographs in the exhibition were taken through glass during journeys to abortion clinics in Liverpool and London.

Power, exercised as control, has blighted the reproductive rights of humans worldwide for centures, enforced births and terminations have often been symptoms of corrupt religions or desperate governments. National ideals of motherhood and acceptable female behaviour are threaded through their anti-choice arguments. In these countries, when you decide to have sex, you are legally obliged to become a parent, should that sex result in pregnancy, the only other option is temporary exile for abortion.

Ireland is one of these countries.
