Safe, Green, Warm: Towards Energy Justice Webinar
Thursday, December 05, 2024
Join the Feminist Communities for Climate Justice (FCCJ) project online for the Safe, Warm, Green: Towards Energy Justice webinar on Thursday December 5th from 1pm to 2pm. This webinar will feature contributions from Cairde, Friends of the Earth and Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann Teoranta (Aran Islands Energy Co-operative).
The housing and cost-of-living crises, including the cost of energy, are pressing issues for women and communities all over Ireland. For a growing number of communities, households and individuals, being able to keep homes warm and keep the lights on is becoming more difficult. Communities like renters, lone parents (majority women), the Traveller community, and older people, face barriers in access to retrofitting and climbing prices. The prohibitive cost of energy-efficiency upgrades, increasing electricity bills, and damp, mouldy homes are just some of the issues that prevent all of us from living in secure, warm homes that we deserve.
We need policy that eliminates energy poverty once and for all – ensuring that those most vulnerable are prioritised, that all kinds of homes are eligible, and that Ireland has secure, green and affordable energy. This would be better for our health, stabilise prices, and be better for the planet. We all deserve nothing less than homes where we can afford to keep the lights on and stay warm in no matter the season.
The event will have Irish Sign Language interpretation and will be recorded.
