Published: Sunday, July 21, 2013

Against the tide - Images from the 1980s Irish Women's Movementis a photographic record of the women's protest movement in Ireland in the 1980s. The passing of the 1982 amendment to the Irish Constitution introduced a ban on abortion and divided Irish society. Rose Comiskey documented many of the protests, marches and campaigns during this period. The photographs speak of a time of frustration but also bear witness to the spirit and determination of the women who fought for these fundamental rights.

The photo exhibition will be launched on July 26 at 6pm in the Avenue Road Gallery in Portobello and run for one week.
