Get the Picture? An Image Project for One World Week 2010
Published: Thursday, August 12, 2010
LYCS is inviting local projects to participate in this image project which will culminate in an exhibition in November. We can't work with each group individually but we can offer support and will pull the exhibition together.
The aims of the project are to:
- Explore how images influence how we think about ourselves and other communities around the world.
- Produce a visual record of this exploration for exhibition during One World Week.
By providing an opportunity for a group to:
- Explore how their own group/community is represented in media.
- Explore how another group from around the world is represented in media.
- Learn how to question images and be aware of stereotyping
- Gain some basic photography and internet research skills
- Create images of how they see their own group/community
- Decide how to visually display their work
To take place:
- From late September to the 3rd week of November
- Culminating in an exhibition for One World Week 2010 (15 - 21 November)
What we can provide:
- Guidelines for the project that can be used in planning what's suitable for your participants
- General support and sharing of information and experiences
- An exhibition and event
- A 2 day training in late September on using visual images in development education, (some of which will look at photographic and media images) which may be useful to staff in undertaking this project
