MAXIMUM JOY (Can I lick the crumbs from your table?)

MAXIMUM JOY (Can I lick the crumbs from your table?) in THE CLUBHOUSE at ABSOLUT FRINGE.
Hello there.
So we've been busy.
In the last twelve months we have made three shows, toured them all (at least once) and put on a festival.
But we want more. Oh look. We always want more.
This year at ABSOLUT FRINGE, we will present three new shows.
ABSOLUT FRINGE have given us a theatre for a week, and we've made it our CLUBHOUSE.
We're taking over for one whole week.
Welcome to the revolution.
We think the time is right.
It's not looking good out there.
It's time to start talking.
Grace is tearing apart our history, Doireann is re-living it and Shane is trying to put it back together again.
MAXIMUM JOY (Can I lick the crumbs from your table?) is a show about all the girls
who try to be in shows. It's about a moment at the turning point of a century. Its about everything
their mothers told them to be. Its about watching a girl called Doireann Coady take a bath.
Doireann has been looking at women. Women from the sixties. Women from the eighties. And the women
who sit at their webcams singing Karen Carpenter covers. She wants to know what makes the modern
woman and how we all still break like little girls.
We are Shane Byrne, Doireann Coady and Grace Dyas. We came together as THEATREclub in
November 2008. Since then, we've been making shows and people have been liking them, and coming to
them, in their thousands.
"At some stage during the performance - maybe between the Stone Roses and ripping apart of
phonebooks - I remember staring directly at the stage and thinking "fuck, that's exactly it"."- I am

We've been finding new ways to make work. We've been persuading our peers in the smoking areas of
nightclubs, and the old ladies in front of us at the bus stop to come to the theatre. We've been having a
ball and we're hungry for more. We've been learning lots and getting better. We've been having twentyfirst
birthday parties.
"So theatre is a safe, middle-class thing, and young people think its
boring? THEATREclub beg to disagree. Actually, they're a little more
insistent: they're taking conventional notions of theatre and its audience
and shoving them back in our faces, with a few expletives thrown in."- The
Irish Independent
WE'RE EXCITED.
YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED.
THIS IS GONNA BE A BIG DEAL.
