Be the change you wish to see: eliminate violence against women

Every year, two million women are added to the 101 million missing women worldwide.
Female infanticide, sex selective abortions, rape, domestic violence, acid attacks, bride burning, widow discrimination, trafficking, female genital mutilation, honour killings and forced prostitution are just some of the types of violence which are killing women every single day.
What is most shocking out of all of these statistics is that millions of women are being killed, just for being women.
Today, 25 November, marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the start of the 16 days of Action Against Gender Violence campaign.
On 20 December 1993, the United Nations signed the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and, six years later, designated 25 November the day to mark this.
16 Days of Action Against Gender Violence is an international campaign which originated from the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It ends on 10 December, the International Day for Human Rights.
