Irishwoman appointed to senior EU diplomatic position

Irish diplomat Maeve Collins has been named the new Deputy Head of the European Union's delegation in Japan.
She will now be the number two in the group that represents European economic and political interests in one of the Union's key trading partners.
Ambassador Collins' appointment is one of 25 new senior posts at the European External Action Service announced this morning by Catherine Ashton, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
