Two campaign resources for pension equality launched
Published: Tuesday, October 03, 2017
NWCI developed two resources on campaigning for pension equality for women, following engagement over many years with women negatively impacted by the pensions system, and a series of workshops earlier this year with women in Kerry and Cork affected by pension inequality. Both the workshops and the resources were made possible by the support of the Community Foundation for Ireland’s Older Persons’ Fund 2016.
We developed a guide on "How to lobby for pension equality for women". Inclusion Ireland supported us to develop an easy to read poster also.
NWCI is concerned that the current pension debate has largely ignored the needs of women and it is our intention to ensure that fairness and equality for women are central to any government policy on pensions.
We invite you to join us in mobilising against the indirect discrimination against women in the Irish State pensions system. NWCI, Age Action and the Irish Country Womens Association have collected over 3,500 signatures calling for an extension of the Homemakers scheme and to reverse the elgibity criteria introduced in 2012 in Budget 2018.
We hope that you will find these resources useful in supporting women and women’s groups in your local community to call for change in the pension system.
