International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention on Decent Work for Domestic Workers 2011


The Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) decided to include an item on "Decent Work for Domestic Workers" on the agenda of the 99th session (2010) of the International Labour Conference. If agreed, this Convention will set international standards that gaurentee domestic worker's labour rights.

International domestic workers groups are seeking to mobilise support for an ILO Convention and to make sure that domesitc workers are fairly represented in the ILO process.

DWAG is campaigning for a strong convention to protect the rights of domestic workers.

We are working with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) to lobby the government to committ to supporting a convention in 2011.

Dates for action:

  • 19-25 March Anti Racism Week
  • 26 April - 1 May Domestic Workers Action Week (Ireland)
  • 1 May International Labour Day
