Legislate for X - NWCI Campaign Action

Take part in NWCI's new campaign action Legislate for X and encourage your family and friends to do the same. The abortion expert group are due to report back to government over the upcoming weeks and now is the time to let our voices be heard by lobbying our TD's to take immediate action and enact the constitutional right to an abortion in cases where the life of the mother is at risk.

Currently in Ireland no legislation has been enacted to give effect to the Supreme Court judgment in the X case which provides for a constitutional right to an abortion in the cases of life threatening pregnancies. In the absence of such legislation, women and their doctors have no guidance on the law and run the risk of criminal conviction and imprisonment.

It is inexcusable that twenty years after the X case there is still no legislation. Every day women have no option but to travel to another country to seek an abortion. These women experience unnecessary stigma, stress, isolation and discrimination, not to mention the significant financial, emotional and psychological burden.
