Members Event: NWCI consultation meeting for members for a new report ‘Six steps to a woman friendly

Published: Monday, May 27, 2013

'We need to change the politics, not the women' – Catherine Murphy TD.

Quotas won't be enough to change our political system.  We also need to change how our parliament works. The National Women's Council of Ireland is holding a consultation meeting for members for a new report 'Six steps to a woman friendly parliament.' All members are invited to the consultation.  We particularly welcome members from a diverse range of backgrounds as creating a diverse parliament is a key part of the report.

At the meeting we will discuss:

-          How can we create a more diverse parliament?

-          What can be done to change the business hours of the Dáil?

-          How do we create a culture of respect in our parliament?

-          How do we give our TDs more power?

-          Should there be a quota for Cabinet appointments?

-          Should women politicians have maternity leave?

-          What should happen to the Seanad?

When:  Tuesday the 18th of June   2pm – 4.30pm
Where: NWCI offices, 2/3 Parnell Square East, Dublin 1.

A copy of the report will be sent to members a week in advance.  Members who cannot attend the meeting will have the opportunity to comment in writing.

Any members with special requirements should notify the NWCI of your attendance by Tuesday the 4th of June. Please note that this is a members only event.
