Network to focus on resurgence of feminism in Ireland
Published: Monday, May 14, 2012
The Irish Feminist Network will hold its first conference on feminist activism on 19th May in the Sean O'Casey Community Centre, Dublin 3. Dr. Clara Fischer, a co-ordinator of the network, explains the rationale for the conference in terms of the resurgence of feminist activism in Ireland. "Recent years have seen a new enthusiasm for feminism, and young people, in particular, are keen to discuss issues of gender equality", says Fischer. "The conference will address these issues and will place them in the wider context of the history of feminist movements and their future progression."
Speakers include Dr. Mary McAuliffe from the Women's History Association of Ireland, former Irish Countrywomen's Association President Mamo MacDonald, journalist and former CEO of the National Women's Council of Ireland Susan McKay, and Dr. Jennifer DeWan from Cork Feminista.
