Special TASC Encounter
Rev. Jessie Jackson in conversation with Myles Dungan,
Liberty Hall, Monday 14th February, 7.00pm

'TASC Encounters' is a series of discussions featuring well-known public figures and commentators. For this Special TASC Encounter we are privileged to host the prominent American Baptist Minister, civil rights leader and political activist, Rev. Jesse Jackson. In the 1960s, Rev. Jackson worked with Dr Martin Luther King in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in the campaign for racial equality. He went on to found PUSH (People United to Serve Humanity) in the 1970s, and in the 1980s formed The Rainbow Coalition to press for greater economic opportunities for minorities and social justice for all. Rev. Jackson ran twice for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, securing 6.7 million primary votes on his second attempt in 1988 which established his position as the foremost African- American political leader.
Jesse Jackson has continued to be a leading advocate for a variety of public issues, including universal health care, equal administration of justice in all communities, sufficient funding for enforcement of civil rights laws, and for increased attention to business investment in under-served domestic communities. He is currently involved in a campaign "Restructure Loans, Don't Foreclose on Homes", addressing America's housing crisis in tandem with the global economic crisis.
Our interviewer for the evening will be RTÉ broadcaster and author Myles Dungan. The format will be an interview with Rev. Jackson followed by questions from the audience.

The venue is Liberty Hall Theatre on Eden Quay in Dublin, and the event will start at 7pm sharp.
