Take action: Write to UN Secretary General to ask for women’s rights as stand-alone goal in the post

Published: Sunday, July 21, 2013

In 2015, the UN agenda on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will come to an end. There is currently a global discussion about the post-2015 development agenda. At the same time, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) will reach 20 years in 2014. There is therefore also global discussion about the ICPD+20 agenda (or post-2014 agenda). This includes a great struggle about wording and recognizing sexual and reproductive rights as human rights.

NWCI is supporting the call by the European Women's Lobby to coordinate both processes so that  women's rights and gender equality are included as strong goals in both new frameworks.

This is why NWCI has written a letter to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki moon, and we propose to you that you also write to him, to ask him to make gender equality as a stand-alone goal in the new global framework for development, and to be clear about our demands when it comes to prostitution. Ban-Ki moon is currently working on a report, which will be presented in September, so it is important for us to make our voice heard as soon as possible!!

Please find here a model letter that you can adapt and use to send to the UN. You also have all contacts in the letters. We hope that you can write this letter by the end of the month. Thank you for your action!
