The Council of Europe Convention on Combating and Preventing Violence against Women and Domestic Vio
Published: Wednesday, April 03, 2013
Amnesty International and the NWCI are organising a short briefing on the Council of Europe Convention on Combatting and Preventing Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
The aim of the roundtable is to raise awareness and open discussion of the areas covered by the Convention and why it is important for Ireland to be a signatory to the Convention. It is planned that the discussion will explore opportunities for NGOs to push the Irish government to sign the Convention during the Irish EU Presidency as it appears there is a real opportunity for that to happen before the end of June.
We are delighted to have Professor Siobhán Mullally of UCC as our speaker for the event and Sarah Benson of Ruhama as facilitator. The event will commence with a presentation by Professor Mullally who will provide an overview of the Convention and its potential impact in Ireland. Discussion will then be opened to the floor.
When: Tuesday 16 April 2013, 2-4 pm
Where: NWCI, 4th Floor, 2-3 Parnell Square East, Dublin 1
RSVP: If you are interested in attending the event please email Jacqueline Healy of NWCI at jacquelineh@nwci.ie or Lisa O'Higgins of Amnesty international at lohiggins@amnesty.ie
