URGENT ACTION APPEAL
Published: Sunday, May 30, 2010
Israeli commandos descending from helicopters stormed the six-boat flotilla in the early hours , while it was in international waters about 40 miles (64km) from Gaza, where Israel has no jurisdiction. Israel's military assault on a humanitarian mission is further evidence of Israel's total disregard for the norms of international law and it has again shown itself to be a 'rogue' state.
The Irish ship, the MV Rachel Corrie is the last boat left in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and is expected to arrive in Gaza in the next 2-3 days. Its crew of 7 and 10 Irish and Malaysian passengers is proceeding on its humanitarian mission despite the killing of passengers on the other flotilla boats.
Sadaka is urgently calling on the Irish Government to:
- Ensure the Rachel Corrie and its crew and passengers has a safe unhindered passage as it proceeds on its journey to challenge the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza.
- Withdraw the Irish Ambassador to Israel with immediate effect.
The IPSC is calling on people in Ireland to show their outrage at this murderous attack against unarmed solidarity activists by writing to your TD's. We urge you to support these calls by writing to / emailing your local TD and copying the letter to the Taoiseach Brian Cowen and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin.
