Women’s Aid: New Domestic Violence Information Sessions

Published: Monday, June 03, 2013

Women's Aid is now offering domestic violence information sessions to women across Ireland. These sessions are made possible by a generous donation from Avon.

NWCI members are encouraged to avail of these free information sessions, which seek to raise awareness of domestic violence among women at a grassroots level. The sessions are aimed at women's groups, whether social, education based, or otherwise. The talks, delivered by a dedicated information officer, are one half hour long, including time for questions and answers, and would usually be delivered during the regular group meeting time.

The information sessions will discuss:

  • The nature and impacts of domestic violence
  • The barriers to seeking help
  • What you can do to help a friend or family member experiencing abuse
  • Support available to women experiencing abuse.

If there is any additional particular information a group would like included, this can be facilitated.
Please contact Laura at laura.shehan@womensaid.ie or on 01 678 8858 to book an information session or to discuss further.

The Women's Aid and Avon Partnership
The partnership between Women's Aid and Avon is part of the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence programme. This global programme encourages women to 'break the silence' that surrounds domestic violence by confiding in friends and family and seeking help from organisations such as Women's Aid.  Avon has already raised more than €90,000 to fund domestic violence support services in Ireland, from the sale of the Avon Empowerment Jewellery, which you can find out more about here.
