Young Voices for Women’s Equality - Y Factor Launch
Published: Thursday, February 14, 2013
The Y Factor Project, the new NWCI youth project, was launched on Friday the 1st of February in the Dublin City Council, Woodquay Venue.
The night kicked off to an energetic start by Una Mullally our MC for the night, followed by memorable performances from Temper-Mental MissElayneous; a young rap artist who impressed the crowd with her philosophical and poetic lyrics, highlighting some the broader patterns of institutional inequalities. Another inspiring performance on the night was by Morgan Mac Intyre; a young singer/songwriter from Belfast. She left the crowd entranced with hypnotic songs that echoed through the room which reflected many issues affecting young women today.
In attendance on the night were young people from youth projects and schools, youth workers, teachers, representatives from a host of other feminist organisations and many more. We received ample amounts of positive feedback from people on the night and there was a 'buzz' that followed on Twitter for days after the event.
The Y Factor Project is an initiative of the National Women's Council of Ireland which aims to empower and support young people to become leaders in the movement for equality by creating a space where young people's voices can be amplified. Many people have already caught The Y Factor fever and are getting actively involved in the project. The new website www.yfactor.ie which was also launched on the night is a space for young people to get informed and to actively participate in conversations that have already begun to emerge.
