IWD Events: Southside Partnership Women’s Programme Bread and Roses Campaign

Southside Partnership Women’s Programme are organising a Bread & Roses campaign involving the communities in the DLR county.
It’s a political slogan that originated from a speech given in 1912 by Rose Schneiderman - a feminist and prominent labour union leader in the US. She used the phrase, “The worker must have bread, but she must have roses, too” indicating a worker’s right to something higher than subsistence living. It carries the idea that we need our basic necessities (bread) to stay alive and we need to be a part of the awe and joy of roses in order to really live.
