NWCI welcomes recognition of Traveller ethnicity

NWCI welcomed the official recognition of ethnic status for the Traveller community in Ireland on the 1st March as an important step towards improving the lives of Traveller women and ensuring equality for the Traveller community in this country.
Orla O’Connor, Director of NWCI said,
“The official State recognition of Traveller ethnicity will be an important step towards improving the lives of Traveller women and ensuring equality for the Traveller community in Ireland. It has been a long process and we want to acknowledge the role of the Traveller women and Traveller organisations involved in this journey. “
