Greater representation on Public Participation Network

The Public Participation Network (PPN) is an independent umbrella organisation and network that provides a voice for all community and voluntary, environmental and social inclusion groups throughout the country. It is the main link for local authorities to connect with these three pillars. It enables the nomination of groups onto decision making structures such as the Local Community Development Committees (LCDC) and Strategic Policy Committees.

Funding for PPNs is being provided by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (DHPCLG) and the Local Authorities (LAs). DHPCLG allocated each PPN up to €50,000 in 2017, to be matched with at least €30,000 by the Local Authority. A PPN National Advisory Group was established in May 2016 to aid the development of the structures, share information and develop key performance indicators.

In May nominations were sought from the Community and Voluntary Pillar for social inclusion representatives. Catherine Lane from NWCI will be representing the pillar alongside Fr Sean Healy of Social Justice Ireland. We will be working with the advisory group to ensure that the PPN can offer a real opportunity to be a truly accountable and effective mechanism for participation and representation.
