Submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women
Published: Wednesday, September 27, 2023
On 25 September, the National Women’s Council made a written submission to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. This is ahead of Ireland's State Report that Government will submit to the Committee in 2024. This report will outline the actions Ireland has taken to give effect to the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The Convention includes a broad range of cross cutting issues impacting on women and girls living in Ireland including in health, economic and social life, violence against women among many others. Of note, Ireland’s State report will be in response to what is called a ‘List of Issues Prior to Reporting' (LOIPR) issued by the Committee. The National Women’s Council will provide a coordinated voice for civil society through the CEDAW reporting process, including through this submission on the ‘List of Issues Prior to Reporting’ and the future development of a shadow report to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
