Bard Summer School
Published: Sunday, June 30, 2013
The Bard Summer School takes place on magical Clare Island Co. Mayo, on an annual basis since 1995.
Through presentations and workshops, the participants this year will explore the journeys taken by the very first woman to come to Ireland;
Cesair who hailed from Meroe in Northern Sudan and Fintan the very first man to arrive on our shores and who was a Shaman.
Their stories come from An Labor Gabhala, The Book of Invasions, one of Ireland's oldest Manuscripts.
Participants will also enjoy a trip round the island with its megallitic tomb and 11th century Abbey with secular wall paintings dating from that time. There will be a special evening's entertainment by the Island Community and a Feasta on the Saturday night with music, poetry and song. On Sunday there will be an opportunity, weather permitting, of experiencing the famous Chartres' Labyrinth meditation walk.
For those who would like to join us and who have children, there is a Children's Bard which runs concurrently with the Adult Bard.
