Susan McKay awarded Woman of the Year in Public Life, 2010

Susan McKay, CEO of the National Women's Council of Ireland, has been awarded a Woman of the Year award by Irish Tatler magazine
Susan was presented with the award, for Woman of the Year in Public Life, at a gala event in Dublin on 19th November. This is the 10th anniversary of the awards, which were set up to "recognize and reward the extraordinary achievements of Irish women" . Tatler readers make nominations, and a panel of judges select the winners. Susan's award, sponsored by Tipperary Crystal, was presented "for her dedication and commitment to peace, reconciliation and human rights."
Other winners included triple gold medal winning boxer, Katie Taylor who is Sports Woman of the Year, Imelda May, Music winner, and Maureen O'Hara, who won the Hall of Fame award. The overall Woman of the Year is EU commissioner, Maire Geogehan Quinn.
The event is written up in the latest issue of Irish Tatler, now available. Susan has previously won several awards for her journalism, including an Amnesty award for work on domestic violence, and her most recent book, "Bear in Mind These Dead", was shortlisted for the Christopher Ewart Biggs award.
